The arrangements were flawless and all our friends and relatives commented on what a perfect event it was to celebrate her life.
Lucie did a great job in co-ordinating the whole process from identifying the perfect Celebrant to producing a beautiful Order of Service and on the day their team was polite, efficient and caring. I would like to highlight the Funeral Conductor, Lisa, as she was of great support to the family after the event and spent time to talk to all the attendees and ensure that we wanted for nothing.

My wife had been ill for many years with Dementia and was deteriorating quite quickly and so in the Spring of 2022 I decided to look into pre-paid funeral plans for my wife and for myself. I contacted another funeral director first who was less than helpful. However my initial phone conversation with Lisa, at Miles and Daughters, Caversham, was lovely. She was instinctively kind and compassionate. She invited me to come into the funeral home to meet her and talk about things. There, I was made to feel welcome and comfortable. Lisa was truly interested in Sue as a person and in us as a couple. I immediately felt that I was in the company of a friend. She listened to all the thoughts and ideas that I had for our funerals, that would make them personal and individual to us. She guided me and helped me to find exactly the right touches and special things that were exactly right for us.
On the night that my wife died, in a Nursing home, I rang Lisa as we had arranged. She was away but was still on call. She was so lovely to me and arranged for her staff to come to the Nursing home and for Sue to be taken into the care of the team at Miles and Daughters. When Lisa returned we met several times as we carefully worked through all of the arrangements. The Service booklet that Lisa put together, based on what I had planned, was absolutely perfect and beautiful. I was able to go to see Sue and Lisa had washed her hair and helped her to look her beautiful self. I was not at any point anxious about how things would be on the day of the funeral. I knew I was in the hands of Lisa and her team and in a quiet, calm and professional way they knew exactly what they were doing. Therefore everything ran so smoothly and exactly as I wanted it to be. I want to stress how at every step of the way, my deceased wife and myself were cared for with respect and dignity. This was real and genuine and I felt so loved. All of this meant that my wife’s funeral or rather ‘Celebration of Life’ left me, and everyone else who attended, feeling proud and happy that we had been able to say Goodbye in a way that was perfect for this person that we loved. I cannot speak highly enough, or recommend highly enough, Lisa and her team . They are wonderful and go way above and beyond what you might expect. As I said at the beginning, I pre-arranged a funeral for me too. I have no relatives. But it doesn’t matter, because taking me to my final resting place are going to be people who really care. I first went to Miles and Daughters in 2018 where I met Lisa. Over the years I have attended funeral’s where they have been ran by Miles and Daughters, I always have seen the care and dedication that goes into each and every one of them.
On 31st August my sister suddenly and very unexpectedly died. I rang Lisa the same day and honestly broke down over the phone. Lisa was very patient and understanding, she told me to come in and she would explain what we needed to do as a family.
Lisa and the team at Miles and Daughters helped us every step of the way, there was not a job too big or too small for them.
I was really keen on getting my sister back home in Reading and was very anxious about her being far away but The team collected my sister from Oxford and then brought her back and kept me posted along the way.
Once my sister was at Miles and Daughters with Lisa and the team they took such good care of her and looked after her. From dressing her to putting a pair of converse trainers on her (my sisters favourite) I know they are difficult to put on .
My sister unfortunately had had surgery before she died so she did not look her best however I know that Lisa spent time brushing her hair out for hours. Lisa made my sister look just like herself again, she just looked like she was asleep and so peaceful. The time and dedication to make my sister just look so perfect was so moving and touching to my family.
We put so many things in with my sister, some things we wanted back and the rest went with my sister on her last journey.
My sister left behind 6 children and a grandchild, all of them wanted to decorate the lid. Lisa made an appointment where we all came in and did this, she brought pens and various things for the children to stick on and made it fun and a happy time for the children which was lovely.
My sister’s funeral was very touching and the day went as smoothly as it could have. A lot of this was down to Lisa and the team, our driver Adam was amazing! He made us feel very calm by reassuring us the whole way there and back.
Lisa recommended us a lady called Jayne to run my sister’s service and she was also amazing.
Again I was very keen about my sister’s ashes coming back as soon as possible. Lisa rang me 2 days later to say that my sister was back in her care once more.
Lisa took time to put the ashes into necklaces for us all, honestly the personal touches throughout this difficult time made it a bit easier to bare.
I do not think that I would have trusted anyone else other than Lisa and the team to look after my sister. The whole team are honestly phenomenal, they really go beyond their job role to fulfil each families needs and requests. As well as looking after the person in their care, they all showed compassion, empathy and supported us in so many ways that it’s hard to find the right words that will do it justice.
You can tell that this is more than just a job to this team, it is their livelihood. I honestly can’t thank them all enough!
Just over 8 weeks after my sister died, my auntie also died quite unexpectedly. I recommended to my cousin to use Miles and Daughters. I spoke to Lisa and she looked after my Auntie as she did my sister . She made my Auntie look like my Auntie again, she made sure my cousins were well supported. We have had the most unbearable time as a family over the past 3 months but Lisa has been there every step of the way. To even book the same service lady so that my sister and my auntie had the same people involved throughout was a very personal touch which was lovely.
It is not something you really wish to do is it? To recommend a funeral directors to people but why not? I would say it’s one of the most important decisions you make at the end. Death is a part of life and we are all going to be there one day, I will always recommend Miles and Daughters to anyone that may need them. I for one wouldn’t use anyone else for any family member or even myself.
