Pax Hill Care Home

Mum went to the Windsor ward for palliative care. The stable and experienced nursing team were unbelievably kind and at no stage did I ever feel that Mum did not receive anything but 1st class health and psychological care. End of life was handled with great aplomb and dignity. The home had a great relationship with The Wilson Practice and I felt that the joined up care from both was a huge asset. No choice of home at this stage us easy or a ‘good one’ but I do think Pax Hill was the best choice we could have made and we would make it again without hesitation.

My only suggestion to Pax Hill is that the administrative staff could communicate more proactively around things like: CHC applications, carers fees that Dad could apply for, and that they keep the Funded Nursing Care fees. The fact that they keep them is on their fees list but when you are under pressure and need to find a home in a hurry you don’t always read the small print and I think highlighting that in our sign on email would have made that much more transparent. The home feels like it is quick to take your money but far less quick to support you in finding ways that you can perhaps apply for other areas of financial support. This is an area I have discussed at length with Wendy who manages the home and I expect her to make some improvements in this area.

A huge thank you to all the amazing nurses and carers on Windsor ward. They gave Mum the nicest ending of her last few months that we could have asked for. Her dignity remained intact throughout and we are extremely grateful. We hope we don’t see you ever again, but should we need your services again you will be our first port of call.
