My partner has just moved into the dementia wing in this heatwave and there is only Aircon in the staff station. They have doors which open onto the gardens downstairs in the non-dementia wing – and it is so much ‘nicer’ there. His room is stifling and obviously for safety reasons the window only opens about 2 inches so that makes it worse. We have a fan in the room which pushes hot air around the room. One poor chap goes around half dressed because he’s so hot but keeps getting told off for it. Quite upsetting.
I don’t want to complain but this isn’t fair.
Edit: A nurse came and put an aircon unit in the room today as we had a friend visiting which was very thoughtful. Some of the staff are really lovely and friendly with my partner but one in particular needs to learn how to smile and be a bit ‘friendlier’ when dealing with my partner’s personal care – when he needs the most reassurance.
The food is ok but no more than that.

My dad has been in this wonderful home since March. The care and support from the nurses, carers, housekeepers to the receptionist has been absolutely amazing.
He’s settled in lovely and its all thanks to the fantastic staff.

    Wonderful staff, wonderful care.
    Compassionate, kind, care with dignity.
Dad was cared for at Monkscroft for 7 years before he finally passed away with advanced dementia. His care was exceptional. The staff became his second family. Right up to the end he was treated with kindness, understanding, dignity, humour and love.
The staff also cared for us as his family, providing support and reassurance that he was being cared for.

Monkscroft has taken very good care of my Grandma, when she died they were so respectful, making sure she had a procession and purple velvet blanket when she was collected. They couldn’t do enough to help us and very friendly. Highly recommend.

My 30 something year old husband was admitted to Monkscroft after a stay in Cheltenham hospital for a very traumatic accident which left him with a broken pelvis, both ankles broken & wrists. He no longer needed a hospital bed but was not allowed to weight bare so needed specialist hoists & care for a few months. He was given the choice between going into a care home or a brain injury unit (which we were told could have been traumatic for him due to the severity of other patients injuries). We chose the care home and were quite dubious as he would be the youngest patient there and we had preconceptions about what an ‘old persons home’ would be like.
Honestly we were so wrong! All of the staff were wonderful! He made friends with his elderly neighbours. Myself and our friends could visit as often as we wanted and spend time with him in their lovely visitors areas or residents areas. I was even allowed to bring our dog & cat on to visit which the other residents loved!
He ended up only staying for a few weeks before being discharged to home care but it’s genuinely made me no longer afraid to grow older!
I would be very happy in such a friendly, warm, homely home!
