Donnington Grove Hotel and Country Club

5 of us stayed here to visit Highclare. The room in the main building was for our 3 daughters, the room itself was a little dated and needs some tlc, but very clean and the girls slept well. We stayed in the summer house, which was very nice, roomy, clean with lots of storage and everything you needed.
Not many places will sleep 3 in a room, so this was an excellent choice when there were 5 ot us.
The bar was great, not overly expensive, good service.
Breakfast £15 each, very good indeed.
Overall a very good stay, I would recommend and stay again.

Sandra took care of everything with impeccable professionalism and care. From my initial impromptu visit where I was provided a tour of the event rooms which was swiftly followed up with the requested information and responses to my questions, right through to welcoming us on the day and ensuring everything ran smoothly.

The food was outstanding and plentiful, the venue was stunning and the service was attentive and faultless from all we encountered during our visit.
The Afternoon Tea was, by far, the best I have ever had; for presentation, quality and variation.

I could not have asked for anything more and am truly grateful for making a very difficult time feel like a fitting celebration my Grandmother would have loved and was thoroughly enjoyed by all ages who attended.

I was glad to stop off here overnight on a long drive. It’s a beautiful, grand and intriguing building and reasonably priced. I enjoyed the high ceilings and spacious room, as well as the large windows looking out onto the stunning grounds. It was great to meet Nigel, the site manager, who is clearly passionate about the place and even kindly drove me in the rain to see the Japanese temple. I hope he is able to maintain and preserve this precious and beautiful piece of English history. I would stay again when in the area.

Update: On the second visit, I was given a ground floor room, which was smaller and run down. I asked to be placed back up on the first floor, which the receptionist arranged. I woke up in the night as the TV had turned itself on and got a bit spooked. It then occurred to me I may be one of the only guests in the building. It’s an interesting hotel, but it’s an experience rather than a solid and reliable option. I hope it is cared for better in the future, as the weight of history plus neglect is a heavy combination.
