My quiet place…………… Outstanding church in the centre of Berkhamsted. Simple, but atmospheric, dating back to Norman times.
Usually very quiet during the day and an ideal place just to sit, think and pray.
It holds very special memories as my parents were married here. When my time comes I hope some of my ashes can be scattered in the garden. A very special place.

I’ve been here a couple of times. I especially wanted to record it for my YT as I film Churches and was interested in the life of the poet William Cowper, whose father was the Vicar here. (Cowper christened here as well, I believe). It’s a wonderfully well lit place, with plenty of light to see the magnificent artefacts within. Two of the volunteer cleaning ladies were very welcoming and allowed me to go into the upstairs gallery to view from on high – it was really kind of them. Thoroughly recommended and at the centre of town, so it’s something that you can explore between shopping or (on an inclement day) take refuge from the rain and enjoy its delights!

Unfortunately, I was there to say goodbye to a friend and ex-workmate, so I could not appreciate it fully! 😢

Made in heaven to go together. Very much recommend Clair Oconnell’s musical concerts she sometimes organises here. The Pillars, Windows, massive organ pipes and vaulted roof provide a wonderful setting.
