My mum went in there for assessment was ok at first then everything started to upset us some of staff wasn’t very good with what my mums needs were she was told to wet herself because she had pads on told to stop pressing buzzer all the time because she was wet told to wait for help because they were going on a break so she just wet herself and a poo to when we ask them to change her said she will have to wait didn’t like that but we were not aloud to change her my daughter took her to toilet one day because she was waiting along time and the staff told my mum off for letting her do it my mum wasn’t happy at all there and started shutting down just stayed in bed so she wouldn’t upset anyone and scared to use button so now she is incontinent was glad to get her out of there

Would absolutely not recommend Greville House. Saw many concerning, questionable, and poor practices here, such as very rough (abusive) manual handelling from a male staff member (made me feel extremely uncomfortable and guilty and caused clear distress and upset to already vulnerable and confused dementia patients) and they were clearly employed from abroad based on ‘need’ rather than their love of care, and (I think) questionable deaths linked to neglect. Psychologically, it was like working with a team if staff carrying a ball and chain tied to the home… The quality of care was poor, and the then deputy (a year ago) was a bully. Also, statistically, care staffing has been slashed, albiet gradually, by 30% in around 8 years which meant time wise, it was like working on a production line… expect each room was the next product. Also the food looked nothing like the advertisement.

I made an appointment to look round Grevill House with a view for care for my husband. I arrived on time and spent well over 20 minutes ringing the bell or phoning but no one answered and no sign of staff. An elderly resident was in the lounge next to the door shouting for help the whole time I was outside but no one went to see her. The phones were not answered. On my return home I phoned head office and the receptionist apologised and said a senior person would phone me. No phone call came at all. The home was locked up like a prison.

Feedback relating to this place is mixed. There are several wonderful care workers who do an excellent job showing real concern and a helpful attitude. Unfortunately the meals are well below acceptable standards being lukewarm or cold on receipt and bland. Hot drinks are also usually only lukewarm unless a kind carer has managed to obtain a key to the kitchen and makes the drink. Sandwiches have arrived dry and curled and obviously not freshly made as by the time these are served kitchen had been closed for hours. Staff are not all trained to use the mechanism employed for the bath. People are ultimately far more important than profits and the owner needs to change this and think ‘would I be happy here? ‘

My mum was a resident at Grevill House for nearly two years before she passed away there. All the staff there were lovely and caring to her. I can’t fault their professional manner, kindness, love, support and care towards my mum and family. Throughout her stay there, she was clean and tidy and looked beautiful. Her room was always clean and well kept. She had delicious meals throughout the day. There is a garden which they took mum out as often as they could. The living room is a good size with a big television and they had many activities to keep the residents entertained. Thank you Grevill House for everything you did for my lovely mum. Rose x
